Looking for something different to do while enjoying summer time, baseball and hotdogs? Look no further than the Birdland Passport!
While researching what promotions at Camden Yards I simply had to have this season, I stumbled across the Birdland Passport. It’s a program where O’s fans can collect stamps at Camden Yards and each of the five Orioles minor league teams – Norfolk Tides, Bowie Baysox, Frederick Keys, Aberdeen Ironbirds and Delmarva Shorebirds.
Starting with Camden Yards, I collected my passport and first stamp in June.
I picked out a Tides game where the promotions included princess night and fireworks. Fans of all ages were encouraged to dress as their favorite Disney princess (or prince) and pose with the princesses that were stationed around the stadium. The post game fireworks were set to Disney music (yours truly was definitely singing along).
The Keys game was an afternoon game and it was a hot one! Luckily, the team put out cups of ice and mister machines so fans could stay cool and hydrated through the game. The promotion for this game was Daddy Daughter Day Date. Disney princesses and princes were on hand for pictures and daddy/daughter participants were allowed on the field and were given tiaras, team hats and coupons for baseball favorites like hot dogs and soda.
The third game in July was at the Ironbirds. Not only was there a promotion BUT the Ripkin World Series was going on and prior to my game starting, I got to enjoy the opening ceremony for the Series. It was so cool to see all these kids from around our country and the world gathered together to play baseball. The South Pacific team made me an honorary fan by giving me a lei in their team colors! I got to sneak upstairs once in the stadium and look at the displays of Ripken (Sr, Jr, and Billy) baseball history. Tip: get to the game early and walk the grounds – the multiple playing fields are all modeled after MLB stadiums!
In August, I made it to a Baysox and Shorebirds game.
In early August, I went to a Baysox game where they honored a current Oriole and former Baysox by making him a bobblehead – unfortanely for Manny, he also became a minion.
Next up, the Shorebirds. I went to a game where 2 canned goods earned you a $3 general admission ticket. They also had $5 all you can drink root beer floats benefiting the community. Unfortunately the game was rained out after a few innings but I still got to wander the stadium and watch some baseball.
Tip: do not go to Norfolk or Delmarva on a holiday weekend!
